Sangeeta Bharati America is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization run by volunteers to practice, perform, and promote Indian classical music and dance forms in the United States. Below are some of our active programs. The success of these programs depends on donors’ contributions in all three forms: tan (physical), man (mental), and dhan (financial) support.
Your donations are tax-deductible.
- Free Books: We provide music textbooks and other books on Indian heritage free of cost. These books are revised periodically, and the latest editions are made available on our website. Our books are designed to be printed at home and bound in a binder or spiral-bound.
- Free audiovisual lessons: To supplement music and percussion learning, audiovisual lessons are available on our website, as albums on various streaming platforms, and on our YouTube channel.
- Music, Dance, and Percussion Examinations: We offer various Indian classical music, dance, and percussion examinations at multiple levels to help students learn music comprehensively.
- Music and Dance Theory Free Workshops: Students enrolled in Sangeeta Bharati’s examination will get a minimum of ten hours of theory classes in preparation for the examination.
- College Scholarships: To help students in college pursue music (in case they need to work part-time), we are establishing a community scholarship fund for selected students, with a minimum award of $1,001 for junior-completed students and a minimum award of $2,501 for senior-completed students. The maximum amount will vary based on annual community contributions.
- Dallas Navaratri Sangeeta and Nrutyōtsav: Various FREE concerts, including sabha concerts and upcoming artists’ concerts, are organized during every Navaratri in Dallas since 2021. Free food is served to everyone, and all performers receive Sangeeta Bharati’s unique Navaratri gift. Our music concerts celebrate our heritage. It is not only for musicians and dancers; it is also an occasion for the community to come together and celebrate. This is also when a convocation (graduation ceremony) is held for students who completed music and dance examinations in the prior year.
- Rana Sangeetam – Our Music Genre: To introduce the language, culture, and geographical diversity of India, Sangeeta Bharati America selects and celebrates one song of regional importance every year since its inception in 2021. This song will be performed by all performers who perform on the Sangeeta Bharati platform for a year from Navaratri to the following year’s Navaratri. This collection forms Sangeeta Bharati’s music genre – Rana Sangeetam.
- Public Outreach Concerts: To raise awareness among the general public about Indian classical music and dance, Sangeeta Bharati conducts concerts in association with local authorities and public offices at venues such as libraries, museums, and city halls.
- International Events: Sending the contingent of American performers of Indian classical music and dance to places like India.
- International Youth Exchange Program: In this program, selected students will undergo advanced learning in the Gurukul system. This program is conducted in partnership with Sanskar Bharti and Youth For Seva.
- Internships: Selecting and sending interns to various summer events, such as summer programs at the AUM School in San Antonio. The volunteer interns spend more than 30 days during the summer teaching music and dance. In the process, they also learn many things by staying away from home.
Our future programs include expanding our volunteer service to include additional Indian classical, semi-classical, and folk art forms, as well as art forms from other parts of the Indian subcontinent and native art forms worldwide.
